Kawanakajima Kessen (decisive battle of Kawanakajima)-part of a series of collectible
figures from the Sengoku Jidai (Warring States Period in Japanese History). There were anywhere from 5-7 battles fought at
Kawanakajima between Uesugi Kenshin (The Dragon Of Echigo, the blue troops with the white Bishamoten-God Of War-banners) and
Takeda Shingen (The Tiger Of Kai, the red troops, with the Centipide messenger flag and the furinkazan-wind, forest, fire,
mountain-flags), and this set is based on the fourth battle (the only one to feature real fighting and substantial casualties-the
other 'battles' had almost no fighting). It featured a lot of manuevering and is one of the 6 most famous samurai
battles in Japanese history. The most dramatic part of the battle (although it's likely just a legend) is when Kenshin
charged alone into Shingen's camp. Shingen remained sitting (he's the immovable 'mountain' in the banners)
and fended off Kenshin's attack with his war fan until his retainers drove Kenshin off. In the toy, Kenshin is the guy
on the horse wearing the monk's hood-Shingen is the one sitting on the camp stool.
